To get the creative juices flowing and give you some ideas for Pattern Hacking Month, we thought we would round up some pattern hacks curvy sewists have done on curvy patterns!
(There are a ton of documented hacks out there by talented straight-sized sewists, too, that could be applicable to curvy gals, but for purposes of this post we are limiting it to the curvy crew.)
There are few notable curvy sewing bloggers who deserve the title of Queen of Pattern Hacks, including (but not limited to) former editor Gillian at Crafting a Rainbow, regular contributor Andie of Sew Pretty in Pink, and fabric aficionado Carolyn of Diary of a Sewing Fanatic (check out Carolyn’s post from last week discussing why she hacks and what inspires her!). These women are not afraid to play around with a TNT pattern, regularly tweaking or overhauling well-fitting patterns to change up the look or use a different fabric type. Worth a checking out!
Another good place to look at some interesting pattern hacking ideas is the Block Paper Scissors series in Seamwork Magazine (free even if you’re not a magazine subscriber). Each month they offer up a how-to hack of one of their patterns, most of which range into plus sizes, but the hacks could be applied to other patterns, too!

I am a beginning blogger (one week!), an older woman and have been sewing all my life. Here’s a recent post about a raglan T-shirt hack.
