More news from the CSC today. We’re sorry that Laurence will be leaving the editor team – but it’s to spend her time with her adorable newborn son, which is a pretty great excuse! Laurence hopes to continue contributing in the future, and in the meantime we’re enjoying all the baby pics.
In her place, we’re delighted to welcome Michelle, of the blog Happily Caffeinated! We’re big fans of Michelle’s pattern roundups, fun Seattle style, and guidance on how to deal with the dreaded Big Honking Darts.
Over to you, Michelle:
My weight has fluctuated a lot as an adult, and finding clothes to fit my enormous bust has always been a challenge. I decided that I needed to learn to sew after a particularly traumatic visit to an Ann Taylor Loft dressing room where, after having lost over 50 lbs over the previous year, I found that I could fit into a size 10 in RTW pants, but still couldn’t button a size 14 blouse without pulling and gaping. I immediately signed up for a beginning sewing class through my local Adult Education program, sewed my first pair of pajama pants, and was completely hooked. Sewing has given me the freedom to choose the clothes that I actually want to wear, rather than buying something that I don’t love because it’s in my size, and it sort of fits.
Hi, Michelle! So glad to see you here.
Hi Michelle – I’ve been a sort of fan of yours since I saw your review for New Look 6457 on PattenReview.com. I loved all of your versions of that dress, and thought I might have similar success myself. I failed to realize that although I share your busty-ness, I was not blessed with your smaller waist – I’m more of a rectangle with large bazooms – and the gathered waist was particularly unflattering for me. But that dress started me on a quest to find styles that do work for me, and I can’t thank you enough. Plus, your smile is truly infectious! Welcome!
Yay! So excited to see Michelle as part of the Curvy Collective!!
So sad to see Laurence go, I hope she keeps blogging! So happy to see Michelle here! I follow her blog and love her clothing style and writing style!
Sad to see Laurence go. I’ve missed her blog a lot! But so happy to hear that Michelle will be an editor! I love her blog and am super thrilled! 😀
This is awesome (Michelle joining, not Laurence leaving, except for the baby part, of course)!!
I’m sorry to lose the two editors, but YAY MICHELLE!!!!!!!!!! I’ve thought she would be a great editor here!
I’m not going to be lured into romper making though 😉
YAH! My favorite blogger!
Great news, Michelle! Looking forward to your contributions!
So great that Michelle will be joining the editors…and Laurence enjoy that precious baby!
Welcome!
Thanks!
Hi Michelle! Just followed you on Bloglovin–I blog from the eastern side of the state. Congrats on the new gig and I look forward to reading your posts!
We have not made it east of the Cascades yet, but I hear they have wine there!
Laurence: congrats on the little guy!
Michelle: fantastic–sounds like you and I are shape sisters–10 on the bottom, circus tent on the top. (Well, not quite, but that recent shrunken-shirt trend? Was. Not. Fair.) I look forward to your posts, and am going now to go chase down your reviews.
I’m a few sizes larger than that now, but still have the same proportion and fitting issues. I hope to be of some help in that area.
I am pretty happy to welcome you as editor. I have been following you for a while now, and always read and re: read your reviews at pattern review. Looking forward to your posts.
Thanks! I’m really looking forward to being involved with this very talented group.
Laurence, I’ll miss your posts, but hopefully you’ll be able to post again.
Michelle, looking forward to your perspectives! How exciting!
Thanks!
Woohoo!!!! How exciting!
Yup! You’ll be able to cross my sewing dare off of your list very soon. 😉
Seriously. You win at sewing dares!
There’s a sewing dare? I’m curious. What does this entail?
L’Anne, here’s my post about sewing dares! 🙂 Nothing too serious, just a bit of fun… https://craftingarainbow.wordpress.com/2015/05/17/sewing-dares-in-progress/
Ahh I’m still not sure if I want to brave a sewing dare from you, Gillian…
Come on, I’ll be nice, Sophie! Here are two dare options, both easy: 1. Since you aren’t doing MMM (I think) do a post about which me-mades get worn all the time. I always love seeing which clothes actually get pulled out of the closet! 2. Alternately, hmmm… Are you a Seamwork subscriber? How about making one of their patterns?
Hi Michelle, I’m from the Seattle area also. I’ve been seeing for about 40 yrs and still learn new things. Welcome, Pam
Seeing and probably sewing as well;-)
Thanks! When I moved here, I was very pleasantly surprised by some of the great fabric shops that we have here that are geared towards garment sewing!
