While Gillian post and Deb’s epic list of plus-size pants patterns is super helpful and an incredibly thorough go-to resource, it doesn’t have much visual appeal. We thought you might be jonesing for some inspirational pants eye-candy to complement it. Pantspiration, if you will, for Curvy Pants Month!
For today’s post, I’ve picked a RTW example for several types of pants and provided three similar stylish sewing pattern suggestions (say that three times fast!) so you can make your own!
Flares and Bootcut
Like these flared jeans from Torrid? Have a go at flares of your own making using Hot Patterns 1197 Classix Nouveau Skinny Bootcut Jeans, Burdastyle Ankle Flare Pants (Plus Size) 05/2014 #136B, or Jalie 2909 Classic Trousers!
Cigarette/Slim
Have your eye on some skinny/cigarette pants like these Alfani Hollywood Skinny Pants? Check out the Love Notions Sabrina Slims, Style Arc Claudia or Wardrobe by Me Haute Curvy Pants patterns as good options for making your own.

Get inspired by these Levis Plus Size Boyfriend Jeans, but get the fit right by making your own using one of these boyfriend jean patterns: Hot Patterns 1135 Weekender Boyfriend Jeans, Bootstrap Fashion/Vado Designs Boyfriend Jeans, or Closet Case Patterns Morgan Boyfriend Jeans.
Pull-on Jeans
Want the look of jeans, but the comfort of elastic waist like these Old Navy Smooth & Comfort Mid-Rise Plus-Size Rockstar Skinny Jeans? Go for handmade with the Style Arc Misty Stretch Pull-on Jean, Jalie Éléonore Pull-On Jeans, or Style Arc Georgie Stretch Woven Jean.
Harem Pants
Like these harem pants from ASOS Curve? How about making them your own using one of these patterns: Freestyle Harem Pants from Everything Your Momma Made, Designer Stitch Lena Pants, or Sarouel/Harem Pants from Lekala?

Thanks for this, Meg! So many cool patterns! I have the HP culottes and now really want to make a pair in a floral. I’m also kinda groovin’ on the idea of 3 different casual pants in similar fabrics to do a mix and mash in my wardrobe (patterns in mind are the HP athleisure, track, and new princess seamed track pants).

Wow! Fabulous round up!! No matter how many skirts I have, pants rule.
Thanks!

I’m really looking forward to trying this, but would like to try proper jeans. It’s intimidating, looking at the Gingers, which only go up to a 48″ hips – I’d be looking at grading up about 10″. I’ve seen Jenny’s post where she says they have a lot of leeway but probably not 10″. 🙁

I’m sorry – I didn’t mean to come across so negatively! I’m really impressed by all of the work you’ve done to get this started and are the inspiration behind finally giving this a go. Thank you!
I’ll be trying this course to see if I can figure the grading out:

Did you see the amazing spreadsheet on the previous CSC pants post? There’s got to be a jeans pattern for you on that list that won’t require 10″ of grading.
L'Anne says
Maybe you could start with a pattern with a better size range? Connie Crawford (at her own label and at Butterick) has an extensive size range for all her patterns, including pants (not sure if she has a jeans pattern though). Hot Patterns has several jeans patterns that go up to size 26, which I think is a 54″ full hip.

You are so good at pattern round=up posts! Thank you for highlighting such a great range of styles and pattern companies!

I loooooove doing pattern round-ups! #patternaddict

This new pant came to my attention this week. The Perfect pant by Christine Jonson. Slim leg wide leg and flare leg. What is intriguing to me is the waistband. A pull on pant with no elastic! For those of you who are unable to tolerate tight or elastic waistbands this might be worth investigating!
