I’m terrible at following through on long-term sewing challenges, so I’m pretty excited to say that I actually completed my mini capsule! The loose theme I planned my mini capsule around is what I want to wear this summer, exciting I know. But I’ve got a few lake trips planned, tons of porch and deck hangouts and lots of walks to our community pool. Casual, comfortable, and versatile are all things I strived for.
I sewed up 7 pieces. 3 tops (Patterns for Pirates Favorite Tee, Patterns for Pirates Free Spirit Tank, Made for Mermaids Mama Ava), 1 layering piece (Patterns for Pirates Cocoon Cardigan), and 3 bottoms (Made for Mermaids Mama Chloe, Patterns for Pirates Peg Legs, Patterns for Pirates Peg Legs Bell Bottom Hack). All knits, all easy to wear and perfect for my summer plans. I threw together the simplest combinations below. I also have all the options from hacking my two coordinating pieces.
I totally get that it might be too much tie dye for some, but I really love the print! I stuck pretty neutral color-wise with my other pieces, so I could mix and match my bold tie dye fabric. I picked fabrics I knew would pack down well and would stay mostly wrinkle free. These all easily fit inside of one of my compression packing cubes. Which leaves me tons of room for accessories, bathing suits, and a few retail bought denim pieces. I also grabbed some quick photos of some of my favorite outfits. I had plans to have a beautiful outdoor photo shoot- but alas, this midwestern spring has been more stormy than any I can remember.

Thanks for taking the time to write up and photograph the results! I’ve read quite a few articles about capsule wardrobes, but they rarely do the hard work of showing the actual clothes on the actual person! This takes it from theory to reality, and now I’m seeing how a few more flexible pieces in my wardrobe could really help!

I love how all the pieces work together with colours that I would never have thought would have. Love the idea of using easy care knits. Great collection!

Really brilliant. Thanks for all of the work, and for sharing so much all the way through the process. Our styles differ but the concept holds up so well regardless of differences in style, as well as fabric, colors, etc.

Wow! You are so inspiring! I can’t believe you sewed up all of this so quickly and how it all mixes and matches . I LOVE the “real life” photos because so many times I can’t visualize the way these capsule wardrobes will look on me. I do have my own little capsule wardrobe (RTW) and know it makes getting dressed so much easier but my RTW garments don’t exactly fit the way I wish they would. I have made one top this year utilizing these posts and it amazes me how making just one piece that fits and fits in the plan makes a difference – can’t imagine if all the pieces fit right and worked together. Good job!!!

Brilliant! Your capsule really shows how they can work. I love the way it combines your style with your practical considerations to finish up with lots of combinations which just work really well.

I love this all so much! this is totally my style – everything I make MUST be comfortable (my guiding principle is “pretty but feels like PJs” ;)) – will most definitely find the pattern for that long skirt and those white pants. Looking GOOD !!

Wow, Paige! This is truly impressive. You know, up to now I’ve been a “Capsule wardrobe? Nah, not for me!” sort of person, but having had to admit that my mis-matched collection of me-mades is now completely out of control, as it’s now bulging but almost unwearable, your story has me convinced I need to at least try to bring some of it together with some co-ordinating pieces. Thank you for the inspiration.

Wow! You totally hit it out of the park! Great job! You are an inspiration.

I have been in this group for about a year now and still have yet to sew something. It seems like so much has changed from when I made clothing for myself. But this fashion capsule is very inspiring. I’m retired and I think this is a great option for replacing my wardrobe to my current lifestyle. Thanks, Paige!

It really really suits you well. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
I’m much older than you and have had it with ready wear. (sewed for my kids for years but not much for me)
I’m having a difficult time “finding my style”. I don’t quite have they eye for it yet. Your capsule inspires me to keep working on it!
p.s. as a teenager from the 70’s I love the tie dye!
