I can still remember the first time I stumbled on the plus size fashion, lifestyle and size acceptance blog Miggmag. The impact was immediate and unforgettable – the first post I read had a beautiful plus size woman in a crop top and hot pants. Wow! It was this fresh and authentically curvy approach to fashion along with well written and thoughtful articles on body confidence that quickly had me hooked.
Marie Southard Ospina is a twenty-something Colombian-American girl now living in Manchester in the UK. A journalist and storyteller she has a wonderful way with words, writing passionately about fashion for curvy gals, self-love, health at every size and size acceptance as a whole. Having grown up in a hybridised culture of Hispanic meets North American, she has first hand experience of how cultures can repress and stigmatise the fuller figure. She’s on a mission to change it.
Some of my favourite posts on Marie’s blog are those that directly confront the “rules” about what plus size women should and shouldn’t wear. Crop tops, bright colours, bold patterns, short shorts, tanks, mini skirts and belly hugging clothing are all put out there as an empowering exercise of self confidence.
Marie also shows you that you don’t have to have just one “look” and that you can change what you wear and how you wear it with your every mood. From a screen siren in a retro dress to a tutu wearing woodland nymph, anything goes – a great reminder that what you wear can be fun and should always make you happy.
For me, the icing on the cake of this lovely blog is the photography, which looks like it’s from a fairytale. Totally lush.
Anyhow, enough talking about MiggMag’s fabulousness! Mosey on over there and take a peek for yourself.
