Hey everybody! I’m so excited to be apart of this awesome Sewing For My Curves series.

My Figure:

I would say I’m “pear” shape now. In the past. I’ve been more curvier, but as we all know with babies, weight loss, and life, things change. The only thing that hasn’t changed are my hips and booty! Got those from my grandma so they are here to stay!!

My Measurements:

Upper Bust: 38.5″
Bust: 39.5″
Bra Size: 38 C”
Waist: 34″
Hips: 49.5″
The sizes I cut for the Big 4 patterns are usually 18-22. RTW clothing are L-XL for tops, and bottoms are XL/XXL.

My Adjustments:

Grade between sizes: On patterns, I am between 3 sizes. So I cut the larger size for my hips, merge over to the next size near the waist line, and merge to the next size for my bust.

My Go-To-Patterns:

I’m reaching for a McCalls or Simplicity pattern 99% of the time! However, I just purchased a ton of patterns, and most of them were Vogue!!

My Style:

I’m a dress/skirt kind of girl! I love them! And for the most part all I wear. If I’m not in a dress, I’m in a long tunic with leggings. Before sewing, I had no-style, still don’t!! Lol! My best-friend will confirm that!! However since I’ve been blogging, I’m able to sew what I love, and I don’t have it all together yet, but I’m looking forward to really finding my signature style/look. Here are some of my favorites to sew:

The Wrap Dress:

I can never go wrong with one!! I love they way make me feel, and show my curves.

All dresses were made using my TNT McCalls 6884 Wrap Dress Pattern.  You can read more about my stained glass dress, purple dress and floral dress on my blog.

The Shift Dress:

I love these dresses. Not just because they are easy to wear and cute but they are super comfortable and no need for spanx!! YESSS!

I used McCalls 6465 for the main dress of both. For the African print dress, I used New Look 6434 view D for the bell sleeves. For the Denim dress, I used Mimi G Split Sleeve Tutorial. You can read more about the denim dress and African print dress on my blog.

The Shirtdress:

I reach for these when I’m out running errands with the children. Sneakers, bag, and I’m out the door!!
For the blue dress, I used McCalls 7351 view A adding view D sleeves; read more here. For the gingham shirtdress I used Simplicity 8014 view C; more details on my blog.  The Paris-themed dress was made using McCalls 7314 View C. Fun fact: I was in Vogue Pattern Magazine Oct./Nov. 2016 issue for my Paris-themed shirtdress entry for the McCalls Pattern Company Sew-a-long!
  

Tunic & Leggings:

I love these for lounging around the house.
Both were made using Simplicity 8094. Get the details for the denim tunic and plaid tunic on my blog!

Pleated/Gathered Skirts:

I wear these to church a lot! I’m not a fan of the maxi length, so I make them midi or knee length.

The floral border print and floral blue skirts were self-drafted. The brown and blue striped skirt was made using Simplicity 8128 and Simplicity 8092.

Future Sewing Plans:

I have a lot of Vogue patterns on my table right now, so I’m sure 1 or 2 of those are up next. I also want to make my first coat before winter is over!

  3. Brittany, thank you for this wonderful post. You are such a beautiful young lady ! I think all women, but especially curvy women, look our best in dresses because dresses need curves to flow and drape beautifully. Thank you for the inspiration!

  6. I love your style: the dresses, the prints, the cool shoes, the fabulous hair styles. I think you have already found your style! I’m eyeing that denim shift dress pattern for myself. I think you’ve added a new level to the wrap dress with your choice of colorful patterns and those gorgeous high heels. Thanks so much for posting !

  10. You definitely have style and what a great figure !? Thanks for sharing, it’s very inspiring, especially to see how you use prints and colours. I, too, have to navigate between 3 sizes and I’m only now considering the wrapdress, don’t know what took me so long!

  11. Brittany, the colours take me back to the 60’s and 70’s! Lovelyl colour and style ranges in the outfits and all look terrific on you. My only suggestion would be to have your tunics above knee length when wearing leggings. You would look great at that hem level as well.
    You are a great seamstrss.
