Welcome to the next sewing space tour in our ongoing series. Today, we’re visiting Suzy’s sewing room.
Tell us a little about your sewing space.
My sewing room is in my back shed – we enclosed it a few years ago and put power out there/windows/flooring. Its really nice to have such a large sewing room when our actual house is tiny! I change the layout every year, this time I’ve tried adding in a stand-up cutting table which is great for my back. I have my machines under the windows for more natural light, I only recently got my coverstitch machine and am still learning how to use it. I have the semi-industrial set up for free-motion quilting on the bigger desk and the other machines are all in a row under the window.
What is your favorite part/feature of your sewing space?
I mostly like how light it is, I have a nice view of my fruit trees outside and the cats wander in and out.
How do you organize your fabrics, patterns and notions?
All my fabric is on shelving, I am fighting a losing war against stash-busting and my poor shelves are bowing! I only have 2 chain fabric stores in my town so anytime I see decent quality fabric at a good price I tend to stock up. My patterns are in the filing cabinet, I put them in a manilla folder and then file then in number order. I sew with a lot of pdf patterns and I like to trace so I need the extra storage space of the bigger folders. Notions are spread through my shelves, I try to keep them organised but its all a bit of a mess at the moment!
What is your favorite thing to sew?
Pants – always pants! I like sewing dresses and jackets, too.
Check out Suzy’s blog, Suzy Bee Sews, to see what she creates in her lovely sewing space!

In my world we call that a “she shed” as opposed to a “man cave”. I love seeing other peoples sewing spaces.

Your space is gorgeous, Suzy! All that light is so cheerful and warm–it must be such an inspiring place to sew. I’ve always wanted a separate shed/tiny building for a studio, so you’re definitely living the dream, as far as I’m concerned! 😀

I love the idea of the filing cabinet for patterns! Thanks for sharing. Yes, fabric busting is a losing battle.

How lovely your sewing space is and to have it’s own little house is just too delicious. Congratulations on creating such a private and well outfitted/stocked place to explore, design and create.
