There’s no doubt there’s a lot of love for Colette over here at CSC towers: the Curvy Colette tour was our very first project, and the wonders of a pattern up to a 3XL knows no bounds.
So we’re thrilled that there’s yet another – and Sarai has kindly offered a copy of the new pattern as a giveaway!
The latest Colette Patterns knit creation is the Myrtle dress: it has a draped cowl neckline, elasticized waist and a flowy gathered skirt with bonus pockets. Sewing has changed my life.
When I was a teenager I was a total tomboy because I couldn’t find clothes that fitted… I wore pants only until I was ~26 years old. I was ashamed of my body.
Learning to sew now almost 3 years ago, gave me the confidence to wear things that make me feel pretty. I discovered my style and I love myself more than ever.
I’m a happy girl! 🙂
I enjoy making clothes I like that fit me the exact way I like.
I love sewing because it helps me get the cute styles I love but in my size! So many companies completely disregard anyone bigger than a size 12 and it just stinks. So instead of giving that company my money, I make my own version 🙂 Thanks so much for the giveaway!
I am SO EXCITED about the CSC! I follow (and LOVE) each of your blogs separately, and after years of sewing mostly utilitarian things (see: curtains, duvets, baby sleep sacks), I am starting to channel my limited creative time into sewing clothes for me. Due in part to the fabulous makes and reviews of the Colette Mabel, that’s next on my list. Then maybe the Moneta. I love it when people say, “Really? You sewed that?” and I love not having to be stuck with what’s available on the clothing racks. One thing I don’t love is sewing up a pattern and realizing it wasn’t designed to fit a curvy gal (though the measurements seemed right), and that’s one reason I’m thankful for the CSC!
I can’t say I’m completely confident in sewing for myself – at least, in sewing more fitted items. But I’m sticking in there, and each project is a learning experience.
Sewing for me is opening up a whole new world. I am not relegated to the ugly or the “right size” being too short.
I deserve to look good! There is nothing wrong with me, I am taller and curvier than stores would like.
Bring on more of these designs!

I have recently started to sew for myself. I love being able to make adjustments to sizing. I definitely don’t fit into one size.
I love sewing and this site is awesome and gives me a positive outlook that there are lots of women just like me out there.
Great way to kick off the site, can’t wait to sit down and explore it! Sewing for myself is very empowering, just because I don’t look great in RTW clothes doesn’t mean I can’t tailor something to flatter my size/shape!

Hi! Sewing for myself has given me confidence because it has helped me to develop my own personal style. I can now make clothes in my size that reflect my personality and what I want to project to the rest of the world. I’ve learned a lot about custom fitting patterns from the Coletterie blog, even before they were making plus size patterns. Now that they have some selections in plus sizes, I like them even better! I love this giveaway. I’m new to sewing and it has given me new confidence in myself and boosted my self-esteem. I love being able to make version of current fashions that flatter my unique silhouette. I am no longer forced to wear shapeless sacks. I can accentuate the positive as they say. Sewing my own clothes has been a boost for my confidence especially because all of a sudden I could wear dresses and skirts that actually fit me. Sewing has allowed me to have cute clothes that actually fit instead of big, black bags with sparkles, which is all that is in the store for larger sizes. It’s quite liberating.

I only started sewing recently and so far I’ve made about seven and a half Monetas (one in the making). I’ve done it with sleeves, without sleeves, shorter, longer, with spagetti strats and in a wrap version. I really do love my Monetas. It would be fun with a new pattern to use and tweak. 🙂
Picking up sewing has made me smile again when I think about my clothes. Not cry and just give up (since it felt like nothing would fit me anyway).
I’m som glad over the CSC launch and know that I’ll bee in here almost every day.
Sewing has really made me feel beautiful again, and it was a long time ago since I felt like that.

At the moment I am looking for great patterns. I sew a skirt and a dress and love how I can put myself into scene with that.
After sewing for my girls for a few years I have (finally) learned how to take time out to sew for myself and I love trying out new things and creating my own style without being limited to what is in the stores. Of course I feel great about myself when someone comments on what I am wearing and I can proudly say “I made this”. The best feeling.

Sewing has liberated me away from shopping in my safety zone…as a teenager communal changing rooms meant I developed an aversion to shopping so the clothes I buy are shapes I know…sewing means I can be experimental and no one need know if it doesn’t work out…
Man, one comment isn’t enough to sum up how sewing has let me come into my own. Not only was vintage fashion an impossible thing to come by when I was in Highschool, it was even more impossible to come in my size. My waist size has always fluctuated, but my bust size has always been something of a nuance when it came to fit even if my waist size wasn’t. As my skills have grown so has my ability to alter and outright recreate items that make my heart SING. Instead of frump I can be fabulous in my every day wear, and as an added ego boost I can go ” Thank you , I MADE it!”

As you can imagine I’m a curvy gal and since I’ve been sewing for myself I’ve gained a lot of confidence, especially because I don’t have to rely on giant expensive sacks to cover my body but I can choose what I like and what is more flattering on me. I can now wear shorts and dresses and all those thing that used to be precluded because too expensive or simply not right for me.
Sewing my own clothes has made me understand that it’s fit that makes a difference, not size. Plus I can express myself in many silhouettes not represented for the plus size buyer.

Wow I am sew excited to see this new site. It’s definitely giving my mojo a bump. Sewing has given me confidence because I finally have clothes that flatter every bump, curve, and valley of my body. I just love the experience of buying fabulous fabric and then making clothes that I would never find offered in my size. Love it!

Sewing my own clothes has helped me to learn to love myself for the body I have. For too long, I would compare myself to friends, family and complete strangers and I would always find myself coming up short. All that meant was instead of truly knowing myself, I was putting down all the parts about my body that I felt were not “good enough” and destroying my confidence in the process.
When I first started sewing, I had to take a cold hard look at the numbers I had been avoiding for years. But you cannot know where to start without taking measurements. Once I did, I realized that I have a classic hourglass shape! You know who else did? Marilyn Monroe! If so many people could (and still do) idolize her as one of the most beautiful (and sexy) women of all time, I realized that I could love my curvy silhouette.
So the RTW world can have their uber-skinny pre-teens and unflattering baggy “plus size” rags. I’ll stick to making my own clothes that make ME feel good and love myself in whatever colors, print or patterns I choose.
This is a cute pattern. Sewing has liberated my style and myself. Now that I can sew, I have the freedom to dress how I want, and not just how misguided RTW designers dictate 🙂
I’ve been sewing for my daughter for about a year, but have yet to get the courage to try something for myself.
I love to make myself simple skirts all the time, but I’d like to branch out. I like that I can make them fit how I want them to fit. I make my daughter simple cloths all the time, because she doesn’t require as much fabric.

I’m excited about the new site. I never loved shopping, mostly because I would almost always want to change something about a store bought item. A lot of “I like this, but…” Now I can make those changes or just make clothes that really fit me, allowing me to be comfortable and feel great.

Sewing gives me curvy confidence because I can be sure the fit is right aaannnndddd use such cool fabrics! Much better than what is available in ready to wear.

Nothing can beat the POWER of sewing! If it is thinkable is do-able… that’s why I like sewing. Being able to adjust patterns to accommodate my generous self is paramount. While I am able to buy separates retail, dresses and coats are an issue. If I want something new, something different, something very ME, I make it myself. I would love to try this Colette pattern!

I actually was not interested in fashion before learning to sew. I hated shopping because nothing fit, so I was basically a jeans and knit t-shirt person. Now that I sew it has opened up a whole new world. I can make clothes that fit my bubble but and still be long enough to cover up my knobby knees. Sewing is awesome. I love that new knit dress. I bought the knit book but didn’t get the patterns, knits are scary. I’m practicing on my son with knit wear first. Haha! Would love to win!
Before I started sewing, I would look at all the magazines with the “what shape are you” guides. I had NO idea! I knew I was plus sized but that was about it. Once I started sewing I discovered that I’m absolutely pear shaped. I also have a short torso and have never had a garment hit my natural waist. Knowing these things 1) explains why nothing fits right in the store and 2) allows me to finally have clothes that fit my boobs and hips at the same time. I love wearing my me makes.
