Hello friends! A bit of CSC housekeeping news today: we’re sad to say goodbye to editor Paige, but delighted to bring Megan, aka “The Green Violet” to the team. Over to you, Megan!
Hello curvy sewing friends, its nice to meet those of you I don’t already know! I’m excited to be joining this group of fantastic and inspiring women. I can’t adequately put into words how much sewing my own clothes has changed my life and given me confidence to be comfortable in my body. I look forward to sharing more of my projects with you and talking about my favorite patterns!

Wearing a swing dress hacked from the Cashmerette Concord Tee, a Blackwood Cardigan, and self drafted leggings
I learned to sew from my mother, I remember a particularly unfortunate looking dress that she helped me sew while I was in college, but didn’t start sewing in earnest until 2012, shortly after I moved to New Mexico and found my plus size shopping options severely limited (as in non-existent). I started off with knits and that is still my comfort zone of sewing, but I also LOVE sewing bras and jeans. I’d say I’m at the point right now where I have sewn about 90% of my wardrobe- I haven’t tackled coats or technical gear yet, but that might be on the horizon!

Wearing my Ottobre Flutter Hem Tee and Cashmerette Ames Jeans
When I’m not sewing, I can be found endlessly redecorating my mid-century home, skiing or rafting (depending on the season), and seeking out the best hot springs in the southwestern US. To keep the fabric stash full and happy, I spend my days working as a hydrologist in the environmental field. You can also find me on my other internet home or on instagram @thegreenviolet.
Welcome, Megan! Love your style, I’ll look you up on Instagram!
Hello! I am a v new sub too, but I wish to say Hi and it’s fab that this resource exists. I’m working on simply learning to sew atm. And yes I know what you mean – buying well-fitting plus size clothes really isn’t that easy. And thanks to sites like this giving us larger ladies another option, we can -at last – look forward to wearing what we want!! And I look forward to when I can share my creations! 🙂
Hi Megan, I’m just north of Santa Fe!
Heidi- That is awesome, me too! I haven’t met any other curvy sewists in the area!
Welcome Megan! So nice to meet you! Looking forward to your posts!
Thanks so much!
Nice to see you over here, Megan. Good luck!
Thanks Marianne!
Hiya, Megan! It’s not too often that I see someone else who’s a hydrologist (although I’m now a retired one), so had to say welcome!
That is awesome, Donna! Thanks!
Welcome from a fairly new subscriber. I am interested in your comment about sewing your own bras. Can you direct me towards any patterns or websites that offer help /show how to make bras that have large cup sizes (UK 38M) without any wiring. My daughter finds that the wires in her bras only last a couple of months before breaking whether from new from the store or replacement wires. I was advised to make my own but can only find underwired patterns using special fabrics I can’t get in Ireland. Hoping you can help as we are getting desperate, and bras in that size are difficult to find and very expensive to buy.
Ivlia, if you click on the graphic on the right side bar that says “Lingerie Month” you will see all the resources on this site about sewing bras. There is a ton of info!
Welcome Megan! I think you will like being part of this group. New Mexico is not too far from Arizona and we have plenty of fabric here!
Thank you Paige for all your posts. I enjoyed them all. Good luck to you.
That is good to know because we don’t have a lot of fabric stores here in NM! Just a couple of independently owned ones in ABQ and a couple of Joann’s. I’m an hour from the closest store!
Welcome Megan! Nice to have you here.
