Layer up for transitional weather!
Our second sewing prompt for the #CurvyYearofSewing is JACKETS AND BLAZERS. To help you with your jacket-making endeavors, we’ve picked out four curve-friendly sewing patterns as suggestions. These patterns are not required to participate in this challenge, as you can choose whichever pattern that suits you.

StyleArc Dorothy Jacket
The StyleArc Dorothy woven Jacket is a nice introduction to jacket-sewing in that it’s unlined, lacks advanced details such as lapels and welt pockets, and has princess seams for easier fitting. It’s available in StyleArc sizes 4-30 (up to a 58.25″/148 cm bust and a 61″/154 cm hip).
Ottobre 05/2017 Moto Jacket
If you’re looking to challenge yourself and up your jacket game, the Ottobre Moto Jacket (05/2017 issue of Ottobre Woman) is drafted with curve-friendly princess seams and a symmetrical front zippered opening. Drafted specifically for plus sizes, this pattern is available in European sizes 44-52 (up to a 48″/122 cm bust and a 49.25″/125 cm hip.
Itch to Stitch La Paz Jacket
With the comfort of a knit cardigan and the structure of a blazer, the Itch to Stitch La Paz jacket is designed for firm knits, such as ponte, and features the sorts of details that you’d expect from a classic jacket, such as lapels and welt pockets. With princess seams and cup sizes up to a DD-cup, this particular pattern is particularly friendly to fitting with a full bust. The La Paz is available in Itch to Stitch sizes 00-20 (up to a 49″/124.5 cm bust and a 48″/122 cm hip (in the size 20-DD-cup size)).
Colette Seamwork Jill Coatigan
From Colette Patterns’ Seamwork line, the Jill Coatigan is a beginner-friendly introduction to sewing outerwear. The Jill can be sewn in a knit or a woven; wool coating and heavy sweater knits are both recommended fabrics. This pattern is available in sizes XS-3X (up to a 54″/137 cm bust and a 58″/174 cm hip).
Simplicity 1506 – Men’s Big and Tall Vest Pattern
Although we are focused mainly on sewing for women, we are going to try to include a men’s pattern for each theme of this challenge. For this category we’ve chosen the Simplicity 1506 – a Big and Tall Men’s Vest pattern, which includes a tie pattern and goes up to a size 5XL.
Prize
The Confident Stitch is sponsoring the March/April prize with a $50 gift certificate. The prize will be given to a participant who sews a Jacket or Blazer pattern and shares it on Instagram or in our CSC Community Group on Facebook with the hashtag #CurvyYearofSewing before 5/1/18. The winner will be randomly chosen.

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this comment, as it doesn’t relate to these patterns directly. I was wondering if anyone can recommend pattern for a petite plus size person. I am 4’11” and find it difficult to adjust traditional patterns in both length, depth and width. Your suggestions would be most appreciated!
Thanks,

Check out Petite Plus Patterns and SBCC Patterns. Both are drafted for petites and use separate plus size blocks.
