Here is one of my favourite easy to wear knit dresses. What’s so special about this simple knit dress pattern? Well, it is all in the cut. I have to be honest, when I first looked at the bodice pieces next to my Lady Skater dress pattern to check sizing I couldn’t imagine how the bodice was going to fit as the pieces have a slightly unusual shape to them, but do not doubt them … that is where the magic happens!
My starting point with this dress was this lovely emerald border print jersey which has been languishing in my stash for many months. What had originally drawn me to it – the very strong border print running along both selvedge edges – made it quite limiting when contemplating new projects. However, as soon as I saw the Moneta technical drawing I thought it could be perfect for the daisies.
As editors of the Curvy Sewing Collective we had been asked by the lovely team at Colette if we would like to do a Curvy Colette blog tour to celebrate the first of their pattern line to be extended into full plus sizes. Of couse, we all said yes!
The dress is wonderfully easy to sew and this one one of the only times I have ever used a pattern straight from the envelope with absolutely no alterations. Truly amazing!

Fabulous fabric. I have to admit I steer away from patterns by anyone but the big 4 because they’re generally so darned expensive and I’ve been burned before buying an independent for nearly four times as much as I can get a McCalls or Simplicity pattern and it being atrocious to grade up. I suspect watching the sewists of the Curvy Collective’s love for independent patterns I might be able to work out from your posts and photos of similar body shapes which independent patterns it might be worth saving up and investing in for successful gradings up.

Thanks for the fabric love! Yes, you’re right, overall indie patterns are significantly more expensive … And it had to be something I know I’m going to love and that’s going to suit me to make that investment. Having said that I’ve just bought the new pattern for the Como dress from Kitschycoo, just because I am so in love with my Lady Skater dresses I know it will work! Meanwhile here at the Collective, we’ll be doing a series of our TNT patterns over the coming months, many of which are from the Big 4.

I absolutely love this dress! I have always shied away from border prints because I am short and supposedly the border detail makes a person look down and you appear shorter. But, as I am getting pretty sick of the rules, I just may have to follow your lead!
