There’s no doubt there’s a lot of love for Colette over here at CSC towers: the Curvy Colette tour was our very first project, and the wonders of a pattern up to a 3XL knows no bounds.
So we’re thrilled that there’s yet another – and Sarai has kindly offered a copy of the new pattern as a giveaway!
The latest Colette Patterns knit creation is the Myrtle dress: it has a draped cowl neckline, elasticized waist and a flowy gathered skirt with bonus pockets. It looks sure to be yet another super comfortable classic dress, that could also be mega classed up for evening. And let’s face it: more secret pyjamas = more goodness.
If you’d like to win a copy of the Myrtle dress, just leave a comment below and let us know how sewing has give you curvy confidence! The contest closes Sunday July 20th at midnight EST, and is open to anyone worldwide. Please make sure you leave your email address or a way to get in contact with you – only entries with a valid contact detail will be eligible to win.
Good luck and we can’t wait to see your Myrtles!

I have hesitated to sew for myself after 6 babies, but running across this group of sewists has challenged me to think that perhaps sewing for myself will allow for the look and the fit I’m wanting. I’m about to start a dress for myself for my sister’s wedding.

My 28-year old daughter loves the dresses I sew for her. Knits weren’t a big problem, but sewing the Simplicity 1459 shirtwaist out of a woven cotton was a challenge! Here and elsewhere online I got advice for altering the pattern, doing a FBA, and it turned out pretty great. I’ve ordered the skater’s dress pattern I learned about on your website and hope to make many more great dresses for my daughter and, one day, for myself. Curvy Sewing Collective is a GREAT IDEA. I hope your empire grows!

Being too tall, too small-busted, too thick-waisted and wide-hipped for RTW and for most patterns, I look forward to reading all you have to say, especially if it’s about separates. I haven’t worn a dress for years.

I am back to sewing again. The first time that I tried to learn was many moons ago and I quit because I got frustrated that nothing would fit.
I am tired of trying to find RTW that flatters and fits. Nope, I do not fit the pattern ideal nor do I fit the RTW ideal. I am slowly learning how to alter patterns to fit my unique and awesome body shape. The Curvy Colette Tour was one of the things that really made me excited that there were patterns out there that looked great and that I would feel pretty in when I made it.
I am glad I found the site. I think it is wonderful to have a place that celebrates being accepted for being who we are and not judged on our waist measurement!

I love that I can still sew for myself, even though I’m plus sized. I haven’t made a ton of things yet but I’m working on it! It’s also helped me alter things to make them fit better.

As a young woman, I made all my own clothes except my jeans and undies. But as I aged and my body shape changed I had trouble fitting and stopped sewing for myself. Now, after years of sewing for my daughter and granddaughter I want to start sewing for myself again. This pattern looks pretty forgiving in the fit department and I would love to give it a try! Thanks for this great site.

I’m new to sewing clothes and this looks right up my alley!

Hello,
Though I am by no means an expert, maybe one day ;-), it is so nice to be able to select the garment style, fabric, and size that I want instead of having to settle for what’s available off the rack. I normally would have to settle for either something that fit my bust or something that would fit my waist but now through sewing, and the miracle of a full bust adjustment ;-), I can actually have clothing that fits everywhere and when your clothes fit, that gives you tremendous confidence 🙂

Wearing something that fits me well AND that I made just makes me feel very very confident 🙂

I love how sewing and blogging has made me so much more accepting of my body shape. I love that I can make what I like and make it fit, compared with RTW just having to settle for whatever fitted the best. No having to settle for what is fashionable or available in my size. I can decide what suits me, not have a store do it for me. Most of all I love that I don’t have to hide from colour and I can have ANY style I like, only limited by my imagination.

I haven’t really startet to sew my own clothes. But seeing the clothes from other gave me the confidence to know, that there can be clothes with flatter my boby. (And I’m looking forward to sew them.)
I have just found your site and I love. <3

Thank you for starting the curvy collective. Its giving me the confidence to try a lot of patterns I had mentally filed as “not for me, not for a girl with 2-3 dress sizes between her waist and her hips” Thank you Thank you Thank you !

Thanks for this! I am learning to be more comfortable with my body now that I am an advanced beginner. I used to be frustrated by my body not fitting into clothes, and now I am frustrated when I can get the fit right on my garments to suit my body. So far I’ve made tons of clothes, just nothing that I really can wear. 🙂

Thanks for the giveaway, I’d like to enter! Sewing has given me the tools to not only dress but flatter my changed body shape after two babas. In fact I’m after myrtle as I’m hoping the cowl will enable me to utilise the curves for breast feeding!

Sewing has allowed me to discover flattering silhouettes that I wouldn’t have considered based on RTW clothes. I have smallish shoulders and my hips are quite large in proportion to my waist, so it can often be hard to find things that fit. Now that I can sew things that FIT, I’ve found that close fitting garments can highlight my waist and make me look curvy in a way that appeals to me, rather than just looking too tight in one place and too loose in another!

i love that sewing has opened up a whole new world of clothing options to me because i don’t have to wait for something to show up in a store in my size, i can just make it myself!

Sewing has made me be able to wear beautiful colourful dresses that I would never had found in store. Thank you for starting somewhere I can go to see how everyone else does it 🙂

Unfortunately sewing hasn’t yet given me that curvy confidence, but I’m working on it! This dress is divine.

I haven’t yet gotten good enough at sewing to alter clothing, but it is something I want and need to learn. There are too many times where clothes don’t fit just right because certain sections are too tight or too loose. I also prefer to have sleeves on my shirts and dresses so I’ve been wanting to learn how to add on something without it looking completely stupid. Knowing these things would definitely give me greater confidence because I could alter my style to reflect what I want instead of the default shape provided by the clothing companies.

I’ve been plus size for several years now but I’m also oval shaped so I don’t fit any off the rack clothing perfectly. Too small up top, too wide across the middle. As I’ve been learning to sew and beginning to tackle projects for myself, it’s been so great to see that I can have any piece of clothing in a perfect fit! I just need to take the time to learn how to make changes to the patterns to do what I need and sew up a test item or two… So gratifying to complete projects like that for myself!

I have only recently started sewing for myself. I’ve always avoided it due to being so hard to fit. I have scoliosis, am 5ft tall and curvy! Patterns generally don’t fit well! I’m learning to fit myself and reading everything here is so helpful!!!!!
